Temple University Hospital is the home to one of only two, four-year year
Foot and Ankle surgical residencies in the country. This is a very competative residency program and only accepts applicants
from the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. Upon graduation from college, candidates spend four years in
Podiatric Medical School. It is after four years of Podiatric Medical School that candidates are eligible to complete
a residency in Foot and Ankle Surgery. The residency program at Temple University Hospital typically selects qualified
candidates from those individuals that have completed an externship at the hospital. For this reason, an externship
is strongly recommended with Temple Foot and Ankle surgical service.
Temple University is a level one trauma center and the Foot and Ankle service
receives the majority of the trauma that enters the ED. Residents provide coverage in the Main Temple ED, the Pediatric
ED, and Episcopal Hospital ED.
